Yilan is a county surrounded with rich nature. Yilan County organizes the international children’s chair design competition to build a harmonious relation between Yilan’s people and its forests, and to showcase the unpretentious nature of local residents. The event aims to promote “innocence and empathy,” and hopes to attract participation by global talents, emerging young designers in Taiwan, and local wood industry, in order to nurture Yilan’s own local cultural and creative industries and to build the county into a lovely paradise.

 

The 2015 Yilan Chair Design Competition is open to all citizens, as the organizers aims to foster the development of industries related to Yilan’s abundant natural forestry, and facilitate upgrade of the traditional wood industry through hosting the international design competition focusing on creativity and aesthetics, and through the innocence inspired by Yilan’s wonderful natural sceneries and culture. Combined with the organization of other cultural and creative events and the International Children’s Folklore & Folkgame Festival, the competitions aims to not just attract talents from overseas, but to also nurture local design talents.

 

By hosting the design competition and inviting established designers to design related works, the organizers hope to attract participation by more talented professionals in related fields and facilitate the development of cultural and creative products with unique Yilan flavors. These achievements will be exhibited on major domestic and international platforms, such as the International Children’s Folklore & Folkgame Festival, Luodong Cultural Working House, and Taiwan Design Expo. Through promotion via channels such as traditional and electronic media, the organizers strive to build the brand image of Yilan’s chairs and gain global exposures. Also, by fostering design professionals and encouraging cooperation between local industries, Yilan County Government hopes to ultimately realize the vision of building a sound environment where industries will stay and thrive.
