Qualification

  • People who are interested in design are welcome to enroll. There is no restriction of age, occupation, place of residence and nationality.

  • Applicants can be individual or group, except to the extent that team members shall not exceed three.

Evaluation

Jury Composition

  • The competition consists of two phases-preliminary and final. The organizer will invite design experts, and representatives from design related industry, academia, and government as jurors. The list of jurors will be announced separately.

  • For the preliminary selection, the organizer will invite 7 domestic jurors; for the final selection, 9 foreign jurors will be invited. For the Sunshine Dreams Come True Award, jury will consist of final selection jury and representative of Sunshine Foundation.

  • If the work does not meet the baseline of competition, the jury has the right to leave the prize vacant. Participants should respect the jury’s decision and propose no objection. 

 

Preliminary Selection

  • Submission Deadline: (Postmark) no later than April 30 (Thursday), 2015

  • Preliminary Evaluation: May 7 (Thursday), 2015

  • Announcement of Finalists: May 15 (Friday), 2015 on official website and Facebook page of the competition, as well as Yilan County Government Cultural Affairs Bureau’s website. Finalists will be notified via e-mail or phone.

  • The preliminary round will select 25 to 30 works for the final selection. Works in the final selection will be exhibited in public at 2015 International Folklore & Folkgame Festival, Yilan, and a popularity poll will be held

 

Final Selection

  • Final Evaluation: Time will be announced later

  • Finalists should come to the evaluation in person for a 5-minute presentation that includes product title, design concept, explanation of material, and relevance to evaluation standards; when a foreign participant cannot attend the selection in person, please mail the video of the 5-minute presentation, which will be played during the final evaluation.

  • Final Selection Location: International Folklore & Folkgame Festival, Yilan

  • Winners Announcement and Award Ceremony: Details will be announced later.

Sunshine Innovation Concept Award

Finalists should submit an overseas design study proposal prior to the final selection. Final selection jury and representatives of Sunshine Foundation will select three winners. Winners should complete the overseas study plan within one year after the announcement. This project is only open to ROC citizens. Maximum subsidy is NT$70,000, and as many as three participants will be chosen. Upon return to Taiwan, the winners should publish a piece of writing on website of Yilan Chair Design Competition and attend related seminars to share their experience abroad.

 

Promotion and Marketing 

  • The organizer will hold award ceremony to recognize the winners publicly.

  • The organizer will select winning works and recommend them to local and overseas exhibitions.

  • The organizer will build a matching platform for winning works and manufacturers, and assist the winning designers in mass production operations.

 

Participant’s Rights and Liabilities

  • The copyright of each work belongs to the participant/team upon completion. To prevent future dispute, team members should clarify the transaction of copyright, and the relationship between members (authorization/licensing) by themselves. The responsibility should be agreed by contract in advance. The organizer shall not get involved.

  • Once a work wins a prize, the copyright of its images and text belong to the organizer. Participants need to sign the "Affidavit" to allow the organizer having the right to use it for collections, marketing, publishing, reproduce, copy, public or online display and all other related acts with no limit of time, quantity and methods.

  • The copyright of every winning work belongs to the creator. Participants need to authorize the right of permanent use, matchmaking, priority of product development and selling. If the works do become an official product, the organizer will sign a formal contract on profits distribution with the participants.

 

Terms and Conditions

Organizer

  • The organizer reserves the right to adjust the timeline of competition according to the needs.

  • The organizer reserves the right to revise the competition rules. To see the latest adjustment and announcement, please visit official website. There will be no additional notices.

Works

  • The submission of documents and work should be complete in time. The organizer has the right not to reject incomplete applications or ones that are not in accordance to the rules. The rejected applications will not be returned to the applicants.  

  • All the information for the preliminary selection will be treated and kept as confidential materials. The organizer will not return the documents so please keep a copy of your own.

  • Once the organizer receives the registration information, the staff will notify the participant via e-mail before 18:00 on the same day. If you have any question please contact the organizer.

  • The submitted works must be original designs and have not been published and sold. Counterfeiting and copyright infringement are strictly forbidden. If a winning work is found by the organizer to have offended any of the competitions rules, the organizer has the right to call the original jury to deal with the situation. When necessary, the organizer will disqualify the participants, recover the award, prize and merit and make a public announcement. (The participants should be responsible for their own actions when in case there is any legal responsibility of copyright infringement as mentioned.)

Participants

  • Please read all related information before you register. Make sure you understand and are willing to obey the competition rules.

  • To protect your copyright, the organizer suggests every participant in final selection to submit an application of copyright/patent before model submission. The organizer is not responsible for the possible counterfeiting during competition and exhibition.

  • Any act of interfering the judging, such as lobbying, bribing or threatening, is strictly forbidden.

Winners

  • The two mockups of Gold, Silver and Bronze winners belong to the organizer and will not be returned to the participants. The organizer will also keep one mockup of each Merit Award, and Honorable Mention. The other mockup will be returned before the end of the year. Details of mockup return will be announced on a later date.

  • The name of the registrant will be the representative of the team. The organizer will give the prize and one merit to the representative. The team should make an arrangement for the prize distribution by themselves and pay the tax according to the law. According to the rules, all designers in a team will share one certificate.

  • The images of entries in final selection, the organizer is authorized, free of charge, to use the actual work, work description, and photos in exhibition, promotion and publication. Participants should cooperate with the organizer during relative advertising and marketing events.
